The City of Tonkawa is taking applications for Part-Time Dispatchers. The dispatcher must meet several requirements.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must be 18 years of age and a US citizen.
  • Must have a High School diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s license.
  • Must pass a back-ground investigation and undergo pre-employment screening to include but not limited to: Drug testing, Credit checks, Written test, and Oral interview.
  • No felony convictions or major misdemeanors.
  • No domestic violation convictions.
  • No convictions of crimes of moral turpitude.
  • No pending criminal charges.
  • Must NOT have a DUI, DWI, or reckless driving violation within the last five (5) years.

Position Summary 

The Part-Time Public Works employee performs a variety of maintenance and labor duties primarily for the Streets and Parks Department. Duties include mowing, trimming, park maintenance, and general upkeep of city property. Employees may also assist other public works departments as needed, including water, sewer, sanitation, and general maintenance operations. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilites

  • Mow and trim grass in parks, rights-of-way and other city properites.
  • Operate and maintain lawn mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, and other small equipment.
  • Assist with street maintenance including patching potholes, debris removal, sign repair, and cleanup.
  • Maintain parks, playgrounds, shelters, and public facilites.
  • Pick up trash and maintain cleanliness of public areas.
  • Assist with seasonal work such as leaf pickup, snow/ice removal, and storm cleanup.
  • Load, unload, and move materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Perform basic maintenance on equipment and report needed reparis.
  • Assist other public Works departments as assigned.
  • Follow all city safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  •  High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to operate basic hand tools and lawn equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor.
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance and safe equipment operation is a plus. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Dependable and punctual work habits.
  • Willingness to assist in multiple departments as needed.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to heat, cold, rain, dust, noise, and uneven terrain. Position requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operating machinery for extended periods.

Schedule

Part-time hours will vary on departmental needs, weather conditions, and seasonal workloads.

Street/Parks Superintendent

Position Summary

The Street/Parks Superintendent is responsible for planning, directing, and supervising the maintenance, repair, and improvement of the City’s streets, parks, public grounds, and related infrastructure. This leadership position oversees daily operations, personnel, equipment, and projects while ensuring that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and with pride in workmanship. The Superintendent serves as a working leader who leads by example, promotes teamwork, and maintains high standards for the appearance and functionality of City facilities and public spaces.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide strong leadership, direction, and supervision to Street and Parks Department personnel.

· Plan, organize, assign, and evaluate the work of department employees.

· Foster a positive work environment built on accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and pride in public service.

· Oversee maintenance and repair of city streets, sidewalks, curbs, drainage systems, rights-of-way, parks, ballfields, playgrounds, and public grounds.

· Coordinate and participate in concrete work including sidewalks, curbs, gutters, pads, and other municipal infrastructure projects.

· Direct and perform grass maintenance activities including mowing, trimming, fertilization, weed control, irrigation oversight, and general landscape maintenance.

· Inspect public facilities and grounds to identify maintenance needs and prioritize work schedules.

· Operate and oversee the safe use of department equipment, vehicles, and tools.

· Assist with budget preparation, purchasing, inventory management, and equipment maintenance planning.

· Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, policies, and procedures.

· Respond to citizen concerns and service requests in a professional and timely manner.

· Coordinate projects and activities with other City departments, contractors, and utility providers.

· Maintain accurate records, reports, work orders, and maintenance schedules.

· Participate in emergency response activities and weather-related operations as required.

· Ability to communicate effectively with employees, City officials, contractors, and the public.

· Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.

· Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Minimum Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED required.

· Progressively responsible experience in street maintenance, parks maintenance, public works, construction, or a related field is preferred.

· Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

· Experience in grass maintenance, landscaping, and concrete work required.

· Valid Oklahoma Driver License required; CDL preferred or ability to obtain within a specified period.

Working Conditions

· Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

· Position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operation of equipment and vehicles.

· Exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, traffic, and other environmental conditions associated with public works operations.

Additional Requirements

· Must be available for occasional after-hours, weekend, holiday, and emergency call-out work.

· Willingness to assist other City departments during special events, emergencies, weather-related incidents, and community projects.

Position Summary 

The Water/Wastewater Field Technician performs skilled and semi-skilled work related to the operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of municipal water distribution and wastewater collection systems.  This position supports daily public works operations in a small community setting and helps ensure safe drinking water, reliable wastewater service, regulatory compliance, and responsive customer service.

The technician works both independently and as a part of a small crew and may assist with other public works duties as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate, inspect, maintain, and repair water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Read water meters and assist with meter installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Locate water and sewer lines for contractors and utility projects.
  • Repair water leaks, sewer line breaks, valves, hydrants, pumps, and related infrastructure. 
  • Collect water and wastewater samples for laboratory testing and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor lift stations, pumps, storage tanks, and treatment equipment.
  • Respond to customer service requests, emergencies, and after-hours utility issues.
  • Operate equipment including pickup trucks, trenchers, skid steers, backhoes, pumps, and hand tools.
  • Assist with street, drainage, and general public works maintenance projects when required.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures, OSHA standards, and confined space requirements.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and emergency response activity.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic Knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems is a plus. 
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and light-to-medium equipment safely.
  • Ability to read maps, utility locates, gauges, and technical manuals.
  • Understanding of safe excavation and trench safety practices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
  • State water and/or wastewater operator certifications preferred or ability of obtain after hire. 

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pound; occasionally heavier with assistance.
  • Walk, climb, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces and trenches.
  • Work exposure to chemicals, wastewater, noise, weather extremes, and traffic conditions.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies outside normal working hours.

Working Conditions

This position primarily works outdoors and may involve exposure to hazardous conditions, biological materials, and adverse weather. Weekend, holiday, and after-hours work may be required during emergencies or system failures.
